Pierced

In this piece, a figure breaks through some kind of barrier.  The barrier is chaotic and unclear. 

There are smears and markings in red which allude to the Blood of Christ covering the sins of the world and also a reference to the Israelites smearing the lamb’s blood on the doorposts in Egypt to protect their homes from the angel of death.  At the point of Christ’s death, the curtain in the temple separating the Holy of Holies from the inner sanctuary was torn granting us access to the Father through Christ. (Matthew 27:51)

Behind the figure are stars and the cosmos which represent the heavenly realms.  The figure is clothed in golden yellow to represent how precious we are to God.

“But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.  Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:14-18
