“Stone” is a portrait of Peter referencing the name that Jesus gave him which means ‘rock.’ “Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (Matthew 16:17-18)

I appreciate Peter’s humanness. His reactions and blunders would echo my own in the same situations. However, he had a special relationship with Jesus and was one of his closest disciples despite his public failures. The landscape in his body is a lakeside view with storm clouds in the sky. He was a fisherman and had many poignant moments with the Lord on and by the water. His hair is dripping with the ‘heavens’ to show the spiritual guidance he received while in the presence of God. The drops represent that the process of getting to where God wants you to be can sometimes be messy and random when viewed from our perspective. “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
