Rest Before the Maelstrom

In this piece, the woman represents the ‘every person.’  She is reclining beneath a mysterious and threatening landscape with a range of mountains.  Her position represents how the fears of our situations can force us down.  A 'crisis of faith' can be frightening.  However, the woman is in a restful state, relaxed.  Just as Christ slept during the storm on the Sea of Galilee.  (Mark 4:35-41)

She is resting on the cosmos which represents the heavens, or the spiritual realm.  “Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest [relief, ease and refreshment] for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

Birds are flying across the space.  They are outlined in gold which represents God’s view of us as precious.  Some are green which represents life and renewal, and one bird is white, representing the Holy Spirit.  “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings as eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
