Drawing Near

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. ” James 4:8   I have always loved this phrasing.  It seems so sweet and purposeful.  We only have to reach out and God is waiting there for us.

“How inexhaustible is the treasure house of the Most High! How near God is to us when we are willing to draw near to Him!  And how He comes and refreshes us when our hearts are attuned to Him and desire Him alone, for ‘the desire of the righteous will be granted.’ Proverbs 10:24″ -Smith Wigglesworth, Smith Wigglesworth on Spiritual Gifts

“Drawing Near” is based on part of the Lord’s Prayer: “Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your Name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  (Matthew 6:9-10)

The stars in outer space represent the heavenly realms.  The landscape in her body represents the earth.
In this landscape, the sun is rising over a dark land symbolizing the hope of a new day in a dark world.

Another aspect of this piece, is the placement of the earth and heavens.  The heavens surround her head, her mind, so this encourages us to meditate on heavenly, spiritual things, and seek to have the mind of Christ.  The ‘earth’ is her body.  Right now, our flesh is of the earth, but it is not the only part of us.  The hope for perfection in our spirit is abiding over her heart and is symbolized by the sunrise.  This innate longing for something more draws us near to God.

The dripping stars are symbolic of anointing.

This pieces is now in a private collection.
