Bond of Peace

“Endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:3

This piece was created from two canvases.  They were painted with the same colors and with the same goals and intentions.  They are not exactly the same and yet they still flow together in harmony. “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

The clasping hands symbolize the Body of Christ.  It is unclear whether the hands belong to two or three different people.  The gesture is one of family, friendship, and trust.  It is also the touch of healing and acceptance.

The background evokes the movement and life of a flowing river.  There are also elements of trees and root systems.  “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.  That person is like a tree planted by streams of
water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3

The golden calligraphic lines represent the prayer language and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

This piece is part of a private collection.
